Places of Pre-Christian, Pagan cultures at the heart of Europe connected with female figurines
Daughters of Venuses: The Female Sculptures that Enrich Our Surroundings Today.
When I started thinking over the idea of adding images of ‘Daughters of Venuses’ I was surprised by the scarcity of such statues in our surroundings.
Only then I fully realized that it is because of a prevalence of sculptures of saints, rulers and military leaders, who were predominantly men.
And, although there were some images of women, the way they were depicted was not, for understandable reasons, analogous to the Venuses.
And one should not forget crucifixes, because they also form a considerable part of sculptures in public spaces.
The sculptures presented here are not limited to Central Europe, as in the case of the prehistoric Venuses.
